Biography

Shannon is an undergraduate who is currently studying microbiology at UCSB. She joined the Arias Lab in the fall of 2018, and loves that the lab environment supports “learning by doing.” Shannon is currently researching viral control of translation. She is interested in exploring the host translational control KSHV exhibits during the switch from its latent to lytic cycle, particularly with regard to the phosphorylation of the eukaryotic initiation factor elF4E. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys lifting weights at the gym, reading books (about science!), and is working on learning German.
