While man-made glues don’t work in wet conditions, marine mussels achieve a durable underwater adhesion using catechol containing proteins in coacervate environments. By electrochemical techniques, I am exploring the mechanism of catechol reactions in coacervate phases to synthesis coacervate based bioinspired wet adhesives for dental and surgical applications. As coacervation is important for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and wet adhesive industries, my goal is achieving more information about the behavior of chemicals in coacervate phases. I also investigate the chemical composition and strategies of mussel’s adhesive plaques coping with seawater environment.
